SRI International designed technology and acoustic models used to return numeric scores on the “nativeness” of speech. Nativeness is the ability of a non-Native language speaker to be understood by a Native listener. The science of speech scoring measures nativeness and applies quantitative analysis, or scoring, in order to measure it. This scoring allows the language learner to make improvements to the language they are learning in order to be better understood in the real world.
